One of the great things about living in Northern Michigan during the summer is the plethora of beautiful beaches within an hour’s drive. One such beach is Missaukee County Beach located in Lake City, Michigan.
Lake City features a bustling downtown with:
- Great restaurants
- Charming bakeries
- A “Tasty” ice cream shop
It also boasts “The Greatest 4th in the North,” a celebration packed with:
- Battle of the Bands
- Craft show
- Citywide yard sale
- Parade
- 5K & 10K races
- And of course, FIREWORKS 🎆

- Daily Fee: $5
- Season Pass: $15 (totally worth it!)
I always spring for the $15 season pass because I like to go there a lot! There’s a wonderful playground for kids, which mine loved when they were younger.
Now that my kids are older, I head a bit further down the road to a quieter section near the boat launch. The beach is regularly combed, the water is clean, and when it gets too hot, I love to grab my float and drift in Lake Missaukee.
Hungry? No problem. There’s a store nearby for snacks or last-minute beach supplies.
