(Not really, but it’s the only Clare song I could find.)
On the advice of another blog site, Michigan Family Destinations [@michiganfamilydestinations], I found myself traveling to the center of the state this week in search of what’s touted as the best burger in Michigan.
The Whitehouse Restaurant – Clare, Michigan
The Whitehouse Restaurant, located in Clare, Michigan, is a small, unassuming spot on McEwan Street—the main road running through downtown.

The inside of the restaurant gives off retro vibes. It’s cozy and very popular, with every booth inside and outside packed with people.

As you can see, there’s an excellent view of the kitchen and the chefs hard at work filling each order. The staff were friendly, efficient, and professional.
More Than Just Burgers
Although known for their burgers, the Whitehouse menu offers much more. They serve breakfast all day, along with wraps, chicken, pulled pork, homemade soups, Coney dogs, and tempting desserts.
The Irish Burger (burger, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing) sounded delish! The menu is affordably priced and packed with so many tasty options, it was hard to choose just one.
What We Ordered
I opted for a bacon cheeseburger and fries, while my travel partner chose the mushroom Swiss burger with onion rings.
The Whitehouse delivers generous portions. Their burgers are freshly pattied, juicy, and delicious. It’s definitely one of the best burgers in Michigan!
Donut Miss This: Cops & Donuts
We were so full after lunch that we decided to walk around the bustling Clare downtown area. Our stroll took us straight to another local favorite: Cops & Donuts.
My go-to treat here is the donut holes—when you can’t decide on just one flavor, grabbing a variety feels like a guilt-free solution (they’re small, after all!). The cookies and full-sized donuts are family favorites, too.
Walk It Off in Downtown Clare
To burn off some of the calories before heading home, take a walk. There are plenty of cute shops and photo ops for you and your crew in downtown Clare.
