I know—so cliché, but true. Sometimes, Mama Drank.

As empty-nesting draws closer, we’ve found ourselves with even more time on our hands. I’ve used most of this time to:
- Walk more
- Write more
- Lounge on the beach more
- Learn Spanish
- Travel more
- Clean out the house
you know what they say about all work and no play, so Our trip this week involved a couple of adult beverages and some back-road traveling—the perfect opportunity to “encourage” Chuck that our empty nest NEEDS a side-by-side or Jeep. I’m not picky. I’ll take either one.
First Stop: Dex’s Loggers Landing – Luther, Michigan
If you’re a fan of a good Bloody Mary, this is a must-stop for you. Ordering a Mega Mary at Loggers is an experience. This beverage is basically a meal and comes with:
- 2 hamburger sliders
- 2 cheese sticks
- 2 jalapeño poppers
- 1 pickle
- 2 olives
- 1 sidecar (beer of your choice)
With my Mega Mary and pull tabs, I was in my glory at Loggers. Add exceptional service and delicious food, and you have a perfect storm!
Our table sampled the Italian sub, chicken wings, and pizza. The pizza was drizzled with garlic butter—I will say no more.
I can’t say enough, however, about the service we received at Loggers. The bar was busy with side-by-side groups stopping in for a bite to eat, but the servers and cooks were on top of it! They worked together to ensure that your beverages and belly stay full, and your table stays uncluttered.
If you are in downtown Luther, I encourage you to hitch your horse (they actually have a hitching post) and stop into Dex’s Loggers Landing.
Back on the Road
Back in the car, we headed along some twisty, turny roads (car sickness? Invest in some Dramamine for this trip), taking in the sights and listening to awful heavy-metal scream-o music because my two co-travelers vetoed my Pandora station shuffle. What is wrong with Hozier, or Macy Gray??? These people have no taste in music!
The roads eventually navigated us to another side-by-side favorite: The Lost Pines Lodge in Harrietta, Michigan.
The Lost Pines Lodge has recently changed owners, and according to my husband, they’ve made many improvements. I’ve lived in this area for 30 years and had never been there before. It’s rustic, has some great merch, was packed with patrons enjoying food and drinks, and had exceptional service provided by Stephanie.
Check out their Facebook Page.
By the end of our travels, Chuck agreed—we need a side-by-side when the kids leave. I mean, what better way to spend a day off than to travel some back roads, enjoy the scenery, and make a couple of out-of-the-way pit stops along the way?
