This blog is for all of the perimenopausal and menopausal ladies out there.
I had an optometrist appointment last week. I was actually scheduled to go the week before, but rescheduled because I didn’t want to miss my book club meeting. A girl’s gotta have priorities.
Anyway, I rescheduled my appointment for the following week, last week, at 7:20 p.m., which is practically my bedtime, but that’s what I get for rescheduling in the first place. It’s appointment day, and it was a long day of grading student LinkedIn profiles. My eyes were not at their best, but they never are that late at night. The technician started the eye tests. My eyes started watering. I’m looking for flashing lights through eye strain tears. I was a hot mess! Then I had to take my contacts out, which caused my eyes to water more. By the time my doctor came in I looked like I was having a complete meltdown. After reassuring her that I was not, in fact, crying my eyes out, I told her that for the past month, or so, this situation was iritating, but quite normal for me. She informed me that this was “hormonal”,
in other words, welcome to the perimenopause party dry eyes. Let me introduce you to night sweats, insomnia, hot flashes, insane mood swings and irritability, thinning hair, body odor, memory issues, aching hips and shoulders, migraines, and weight gain. Seriously, what more do women have to go through!?!
I’m writing this to let you ladies know that you are not alone. I’m angry with you. I’m literally crying ALONGSIDE you! I do have a solution for you if you have the same eye issues that I have. My doctor asked if I have a microwavable mask that I can heat up each night and place on my over-strained eyes for 12 minutes (minimum). I do have one, but I actually keep it frozen most of the time for my migraine days, so I started investigating other solutions and found this gem!
Cordless Heated Eye Mask, good for travel, and washable – https://amzn.to/3Xlvgwt
I LOVE IT! I turn it on, place it on my eyes, and it shuts off automatically after 15 minutes. After only one week, I have already noticed an improvement. No more tears, and it’s relaxing. The only complaint about this product that I do have is that when it’s charging, a red light flashes constantly. ONCE IT’S fully charged, a blue light flashes constantly. It is not something you want on your nightstand, at night, while it’s charging…right Chuck? Now that I’ve figured that issue out, and only charge it during the day, things are a lot less charged (haha) in our house.
