Okay, so this post may be a little TOO little, little too late, but our snow day today gave me some time to finally finish it. Macey said that as long as I finished it before the New Year, it was fine to post after Christmas. I’m going to interpret that to mean “as long as you post it during the winter it’s fine.”
During November, Macey sent me a link to the Christkindl Mkt in Grand Rapids. She was able to go last year and said that I needed to go and get a pretzel. A pretzel? Okay. I do love a good pretzel, so I quickly texted my gang to make a plan:
- Date: December 14th – check
- reserve an alpenglobe – check
- preorder beverages and snacks – check, check
Admittedly, I probably wouldn’t have thought to book an Alpenglobe if my friend Mandy hadn’t suggested IT. They are pricey, and it is almost Christmas! Split between the six of us, though, the price was not too awful. The weather was bitterly cold. Frigid. It was torturous. The temperature was 5 degrees, and that was without the windchill!!! We had two heaters and blankets in the Alpenglobe and we were still cold, but not as cold as they were outside of the globe haha.

SO, we toasted to our pre-planning thoughtfulness, had some pre-shopping snacks, and then set on our way to visit the vendors.

Despite the frigid temperature, I swear my fingers were close to being frostbitten, we managed to visit all of the vendors. My absolute favorite was A House of Books. This is where I purchased Macey’s Junk Journal Kit. I also bought my stepdad a “mystery” book from them. The book was already wrapped beautifully. I picked the genre and that was it. So Simple! Ironically, when he opened IT, he found that it was a book by an author on his “to read” list. SCORE!
While we were enjoying our “gal time” in Grand Rapids, some of our daughters were in Madrid (Spain) at the Christmas Market there. Living their best lives of course, just like their moms. They were a lot warmer than we were!

After shopping, we still had time in our Alpenglobe so we ordered more beverages, bought more snacks (pretzels of course!), and performed some fabulous Christmas karaoke. I’m sure our server/attendant Helga, not her real name (who was AMAZING!), none of us can remember her real name :(, who we harassed into singing and dancing with us, will never hear “Last Christmas” the same way again. Did I mention that the alpenglobe was so worth it???
