This week’s post is about communication, and how extremely important it is. In a previous post, I wrote about my plan to visit Macey in Spain. I posed some questions to my readers: Do you use a travel agent when booking big trips? or in this day of technology (i.e., AI), do you prefer to book everything yourself? If you use a travel agent, how long does it take for them to normally respond with trip information (i.e., flights, hotels, etc.)?
I waited four weeks for communication from my travel agent. I think that was a fair amount of time. Don’t you? I mean, I’ll be traveling during Holy Week, things are going to sell out fast, so I didn’t want to wait any longer. I followed up with my travel agent and asked if she had any information for me yet. She told me that she would have it the next day. The next day came, and went, with no information. I decided that I could no longer live like this, and began booking my trip myself. When she finally did send the information, I told her that I had already started booking on my own and would no longer need her help. UNFORTUNATELY, we had to break up. The trip she helped me plan to Italy was awesome, but even then, i had the same problem with her. She did not communicate, and I was MAJORLY stressed out before the trip (a fact Chuck kept reminding me of). I can’t spend this amount of money and be constantly worried about the lack of communication. Especially when I have no flexibility on travel dates. BUT….why am I trying to justify our BREAKUP? I wasn’t happy, so I ended it. Period.
This trip to Spain is going to be interesting. I’m suffering from information overload right now, and going a little CRAZY! I’m reading and re-reading blogs. I have my flights but not my accomodations at this point. I will be in Barcelona for three nights. Have any of you stayed in Barcelona? If so, where? I want to stay in the Gothic Quarter. Are there any restaurants that we must eat at? Any food tours that you recommend? Help me!
I will be in Seville for three nights. I’m not worried about accomodations there. That’s Macey’s area so she can help me find good/safe places. We will end our trip in Madrid. We will be there for two nights. Any recommendations for accomodation in Madrid?
I will end my post today, putting an emphasis on how important communication is, in everything that we do. When you booked a trip, in olden times, you called up a local travel agency and spoke with someone that you knew or had a friend who knew that person. It was easier to build a relationship with them, and TRUST them. Now, you might be spending thousands of dollars on a once-in-a-lifetime trip and booking it through a person in a different state. You don’t know them, they don’t know you, or any of your people. That person has to work harder to establish a relationship and trust. Communication is the first and last step, or you will lose business. Period.
Looking for something good to read?
I just finished the Moonshiner’s Daughter. It was really good, so good that I finished it in less than 24 hours! It’s free on Kindle Unlimited which makes it even better. Here’s the link to order:
I’m finishing up The Uncool by Cameron Crowe. I’m listening to it, so it’s taking me longer to get through it. I’m really enjoying the stories of his interviews with David Bowie, Greg Alman, and more. Here’s the link:
