But we would travel 500 more, just to be the ones….
Miles and I traveled a lot of miles today and it wasn’t without its trials, tribulations and triumphs.

Here are a few of our favorite memories.
I learned today that I have evolved into the quintessential old lady clueless traveler.
At one point, my seat mate, a Spanish gentleman, took pity on me after watching me struggle for more than a few minutes told me that I was trying to plug my phone into… well we don’t really know what I was trying to plug my phone into, but it wasn’t the charging outlet. I had a good embarrassed chuckle, and vowed to wear my readers from that point on. I’m pretty sure he rolled his eyes and said not one more word the entire 8+ hour trip.
O’Hare needs better signage!!! I could not figure out how to get to the international terminal… other than leaving the airport and taking a shuttle. No way was I going through the TSA checkpoint again, especially at that airport! I stopped a maintenance woman and she told me what to do to avoid going back through security. Thank goodness for her!
Duolingo tried to teach me, but I definitely need more intensive Spanish training. Nodding and smiling when people are speaking to you like Spanish is you native language only gets you so far. I still have no idea why my carryon was tagged. The airline worker gave me a lengthy explanation but alas I have no idea what she was talking about.
These were just a few of our pitfalls today. Honestly it could have been much worse… like the time Macey and I left the Barcelona airport on the wrong level and had to go back in to get to the proper level for our uber. Luckily, their security is not as strictly enforced here as it is at home. I’m also thankful to have gotten through customs and security in less than 20 minutes in Madrid. I had plenty of time to sit around and wait for my connecting flight.

Other positives:
1. My airline meal was tasty.
2. Traverse City Cherry Capital was quick and efficient. I didn’t have to wait in a line of any kind.
3. Melatonin, combined with my heat mask, and headache cream works! I slept for the entire trip to Madrid. I also slept from Madrid to Barcelona. I didn’t even feel the plane take off (I literally, folded in half, and passed out), and I think I heard my seat mate heave a sigh of relief when she realized that I was not dead.
4. Compression socks saved my life and legs today. For real. I almost didn’t wear them. They aren’t the most fashion-forward way to dress when going out in public. I’m thankful I did. My legs and feet hit but not nearly as bad as they would have if I hadn’t worn them. Seriously, don’t travel without them!

Finally, I got to see my Macey, and we got some fabulous pics. more details to share of our day one activities later.

Until tomorrow where we plan to discuss our Barcelona adventures in greater detail.
