Last week we had our first snow day here in Northern Michigan. Yay! Since I had the house to myself for the first time ever on a snow day, I thought it would be a good time to do some Christmas decorating.
Typically, I will have the kids bring up the three trees and two totes of STUFF. Unfortunately, none of them were available, so I had to haul all of the stuff out of the basement myself. It was at this point that a light bulb went off in my head.
No wonder my mom doesn’t decorate her house anymore! I get it now.
Seriously, that stuff is heavy! and it takes all day! Where is the joy in doing it all by yourself?!? I didn’t even turn on Christmas music. It was kind of sad.
Is this empty nesting? Discovering things that used to be fun (or forced, depending on which of my children you ask) family time IS now just a reminder that our kids are living their best lives….without us.
What about you? Do you still decorate your house? If so, how do you find your joy doing it alone? Or, have you come up with some new traditions?
