The weather was sunny, and… well, not warm, but the sun made it feel warm-er. It was the perfect weekend for a Galentine’s Getaway.

I’m lucky enough to have three college friends who still like shenanigans and include me in their shenanigans. We try to get together two times a year. A southwest Michigan trip during the winter and a trip somewhere warm in the summer. It’s a bit backward, but it works for us, and that’s all that matters.
This year’s winter trip was to South Haven. I’ve never been before, so I was excited to make the trip.
Located in the southwest portion of Michigan, South Haven is known for its beaches. According to my friend “Chicago” Dawn (as she is known at our house), it is a very popular destination from Chicago. It’s only about an hour and a half drive for those travelling from the Windy City. It was about a two-hour drive from my home in Northern Michigan.
As mentioned above, South Haven is a popular SUMMER place to visit. What are four gals supposed to do in South Haven on Valentine’s Day weekend?
First, book a really cute VRBO. If the house comes with a red, old-fashioned telephone even better!

Second, have a theme. Our theme for this weekend was pink. Pink clothes, pink crafts, pink gifts….everything pink! Easy for some of you to achieve, I’m sure, but for me, an anti-pink person, it was a bit more challenging. Luckily, pink around Valentine’s Day is pretty easy to find.
Third, we like to gift each other with little inexpensive things during our Michigan trip. Usually, these are things that remind us of something said or done in the past, or maybe things that we think will remind us of each other while we are apart.

Fourth, plan at least one outing. Get out of the VRBO and see the city sights at least once. Our outing this time was to Salt and Soul, and it was AMAZING!

If you have not been to a salt room before, here is the lowdown. You sit in a room, surrounded by salt. Those walls are made of salt bricks. Soothing lighting and music are pumped in. Free (unlimited) adult beverages, or water, for all. You sit, you relax, feet up on a heated stone, and breathe in as dry salt is pumped into the room. It was so magnificent. I actually wish there were a salt room in my town.
After our salt spa, we were given a gift bag from Salt and Soul. I really can’t say enough nice things about this business. You should definitely check it out if you are in South Haven. Then we took a quick walk around the downtown area, shopped a little, had lunch, and took some pics.

Where did we have lunch? Six Chicks Scratch Kitchen, known for delicious food and tasty cinnamon rolls.

Last things to do on your Galentine’s trip to South Haven: head back to the VRBO and enjoy the hot tub, some beverages, some games, maybe some crafts, lots of laughs, and some “girl” TV. Just relax and enjoy your time together.
