The other travel blogs didn’t warn me, so I’m writing this to warn you. If you are taking a bus trip to Ronda, PACK SOME DRAMAMINE!
On one of my last days in Spain, we did a three-city, 10-hour bus tour. Yes, that’s right, 10 hours!
The bus left from the Seville city center. Because of the Holy Week celebrations, we had a bit of a walk to the bus which wouldn’t have been a problem if our tour guide walked at a reasonable pace. We were behind schedule because some people in our group were late, and our guide decided to make up the time by practically sprinting to the bus location. Macey and I were able to keep up, but there were several people, who were not as spry, who were left in the dust. Literally.

Once on the bus, we were treated to breathtaking views on our way to our first stop, Zahara de la Sierra. Zahara is a beautiful village nestled within the Sierra de Cadiz. Because it sits atop a mountain range, it features steep hills up and down, and then up and down again, leading into the village itself. I have no idea how the elderly population maneuvers within these boundaries. We witnessed that they do, in fact, live and thrive here. Our tour of Zahara ended with an olive oil tasting. There really is nothing better than fresh olive oil and bread.

Grazalema was our second stop. Located in Sierra de Grazalema it is another popular White Village. This village has some wonderful pastries that are definitely worth checking out.

Ronda, our final destination. A large village built atop a deep ravine, and the birthplace of bullfighting. I’ve been on a bit of a Ernest Hemingway kick lately, and Ronda was one of his favorite places in Spain.

I wish Ronda had been our first stop, because by the time we made it to this picturesque town, I was tired! I only took two pictures (Macey took none!) and really didn’t appreciate what I was experiencing. We should have learned this lesson when we did a similar tour in Italy. Three locations to visit in one day is too much! If I had a chance to do it all over again, I would have only gone to Ronda and taken a more thorough, guided tour of the area.
