La playa awaits

Come with me to the Mediterranean Sea

Macey planned my last day in Spain. We took a bus ride from Seville to Malaga. She knows that I love the beach, and Malaga is a coastal city. We were super excited to get our tan on!

Picasso-inspired wall art

We started our trip with a tuk-tuk tour of the city (Macey’s treat), of course. The name of our driver/tour guide was Jesus, quite fitting for Holy Week. Jesus was very cute and very knowledgeable. He is Catholic (of course Jesus is) and gave us lots of information about the Holy Week festivities.

Picasso grew up in Malaga, so we were shown the house he lived in with his family, as well as Picasso-inspired art. Our tour took us up into the mountains, where we learned about bullfighting, which is still celebrated in Malaga, and saw some amazing views.

Malaga high up in the mountains

On the way back down the mountain, we were informed that Antonio Banderas owns a restaurant in Malaga. He is often commonly seen during Holy Week. HOLY WHAT?!? From that point on, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to the beach or Antonio’s restaurant more. Jesus also informed me that Antonio is very nice and will often pose for pictures with fans. I immediately started plotting and planning a blog post around meeting Antonio……BUT Then…..Macey whispered to me, “Who is Antonio Banderas?” I feel like I’ve failed as a mother. How can my children not know Zorro? Now that I think about it, most of his hit movies are quite old. So, I just explained that he is Puss in Boots in the Shrek movies. She still has no idea what he looks like lol.

We opted for the beach over Antonio. This time. It was a little chilly, but there was no way that I was missing out on my beach time, so Macey and I changed in a bathroom (which was extremely clean, btw), grabbed our Turkish towels, and headed to the surf and sand. It was amazing to just lie back and soak up the UV rays. I did get a little annoyed with the woman who kept disturbing my beach mojo to offer me a massage (at least 6 times, if not more!). How many times do you have to tell someone no before they’ll leave you alone?!?

Mediterranean Sea – the beach sand here is VERY pebble-y—-and shell-y

With the number of beach goers and beach “salespeople,” you don’t dare leave your belongings unattended. We still managed a quick photoshoot. We were also able to relax a lot, and Macey managed to get herself a nice sunburn.

Gelato in Malaga

We ended our beach day with an early dinner overlooking ginormous yachts, shopping (there were MANY amazing booths conveniently set up right at the beach), and a gelato dessert that rivaled what we had in Italy. Dare I say the Spanish gelato was BETTER than what we had in Italy? Or is that going too far?

When I go back to Spain, I definitely plan to spend more time in Malaga. I need to spend more time exploring the Picasso connection. I need to spend more time on the beach. I need to spend more time shopping. I need to spend more time looking for Antonio. I might even spend a little time on the hiking trails.
